I started a new fiber craft and I LOVE it!!! Needle felting! My first project is a hat for a Halloween Hat competition at a local yarn shop. I decided to make a hat that looks like a Beholder (a crazy scary multi-eyed creature) and when I was unhappy with the crocheted eyeballs I was originally planning on using, I turned to needles! It is so much fun. I can't wait to try my hand at more projects soon.
Here she is! With wires inside each "tentacle" you can make them look wherever you like!
I debated on putting teeth around the brim of the hat. I am still on the fence about it but have decided not to at this point in time. Here is a swatch with a tooth felted onto it just to see what it would look like. I think it could work, maybe I will add them later!

ReplyDeleteWow, this is a totally amazing hat! I've never needlefelted, but I might have to give it a go... Seconding the request for pattern, if you have one. I'm getting the feeling that there wasn't so much pattern as there was just crochet hook and go, so I totally understand if there isn't one. It's still awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteI would back this on Kickstarter in a second.
ReplyDeleteMy husband saw this and is demanding that I make him one. Any chance the pattern might be available on Ravelry.com some time in the future?

ReplyDeleteHi Jen, my name is Margery Moberly. I dont have an account to link this to so had to go Anonymous. People are pretty serious about the pattern business. I would gladly pay $10 for this pattern, if you can make one? Mostly the eye stalks and placement so its balanced, as they look a bit difficult. I would not share it but direct people to you to buy it. In the last 5 hours at least 10 people on my Facebook have asked me to make them one. You could make a good amount of money for a pattern.
ReplyDeleteYou are crazy talented!!! I have seen a few other Beholder hats but yours is seriously the best!
Best wishes and would love to hear from you. my email is moberlym@yahoo.com.
Hello Jen. How did you wire the eyestalks without the ends of the wire poking you in the head? Also wondering how you attach them to the hat and get them to stand straight up. My husband loves this so much. He found your blog and is begging me to make him one. You are extremely talented. I've never seen a Beholder better than yours!! Thank you in advance for any tips you can share.

DeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI work for a McInerney Marketing Group and one of my clients is interested in purchasing the image of your hat for a campaign. I would love to get in contact and chat about this further. If you could get in touch with me as soon as possible that would be great. jess@marketinggroup.com.au
Jen, I can't do what you do but I would love to have you make me one of these lovely hats for my son. Its his birthday next month and I would be one heck of a mom if I could get this. Thank you
ReplyDeleteStill one of the best posts on the Internet, ever.
ReplyDeleteDo you still make these hats? Drop me an email if you do! Blain.s.andrew@gmail.com
